HERA assessments paused — what to do if yours was booked
The Home Energy Rating Assessment activity — activity 45 under the VEU — paused from 24 June 2026, when the Residential Efficiency Scorecard program it depended on closed the day before.
If you had an assessment booked or half-finished, here's the practical position.
What HERA was for
A HERA assessment gave you a whole-of-home rating — an assessor walked the property and scored how it performs, then produced a report pointing at what to fix first. Useful, because it answered "where does my money go furthest" with evidence rather than a guess.
With the Scorecard program closed, the assessment method underneath it went away, so the VEU activity paused with it.
What to do instead
The rest of the VEU is unaffected. Every other activity — heating and cooling, hot water, insulation, induction cooktops, lighting — is running normally. What you've lost is the formal diagnostic, not the discounts.
In practice the assessment usually confirmed the same short list anyway:
- Insulation first if the ceiling is bare or thin — everything else works harder without it.
- Hot water next if you're on electric resistance or old gas — usually the single biggest line on the bill.
- Heating and cooling once the envelope is sorted, so you can size the system properly.
That ordering holds for most Victorian homes without needing a rating to prove it.
